Before you begin your implementation process in Insights, you will need to ensure that some specific Canvas settings are optimized for your institution. This article will review those settings.
Calculation Method:
When Insights pushes outcomes into Canvas via the API, the calculation defaults to Decaying Average. We recommend changing the default to either Most Recent Score or Highest Score. Otherwise, when Insights aggregates the data, it will aggregate averages, and the data will be skewed. This setting needs to be changed at the root account level and preferably before you push outcomes into Canvas. Instructure needs to enable the feature option for you first. This quick video explains how to change the calculation method. Reach out to your Instructure or Insights CSM if you need more help.
Ensure that the Account and Course Level Outcome Mastery Scales feature is NOT enabled in Canvas. If it is, faculty will not be able to see the rating scales that are pushed into Canvas from Insights.

How do I manage outcome mastery calculations in an account?
Account and Course Level Outcome Mastery Scales
To be sure that mastery levels are recognized during the SLO sync from Insights to Canvas, please ensure that the Account and Course Level Outcome Mastery Scales feature is NOT enabled in Canvas. If it is, faculty will not be able to see the rating scales that are pushed into Canvas from Insights.
